Day Zero is arguably the home of the 101 in 1001 project online

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.

2. Stay Focussed. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.

3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.

4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.

5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

My goal/day 1001 will be Monday 12th September 2011
  1. Read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
  2. Read the first Swallows and Amazons book and the rest if they’re any good
  3. Read War and Peace
  4. Complete Thing a Day one year
  5. Complete NaKniSweMo FAILED
  6. Make a serious attempt at learning to Crochet
  7. Wheel myself a minimum of mile at least 5 days out of 7 for three months
  8. Complete a 365 photo project FAILED
  9. Complete NaBloPoMo
  10. Go to the cinema once a month for a year FAILED
  11. Bake something once a month for a year FAILED
  12. Go to bed before midnight every night for a month
  13. Buy a new more appropriate lifejacket
  14. Write a minimum of 1000 words (non blog) a day for three months
  15. Write the fanfiction that’s been buzzing around in my head since February 2008
  16. Complete the Southern Cross Novel Challenge (NaNo in June thing)
  17. Take a crafty course at the arts centre
  18. Enter some creative writing competitions
  19. Create a proper knitting pattern of my own and publish it online/on ravelry
  20. Work on some light weight training again
  21. Go to see Wicked the Musical
  22. Do a 10K
  23. Complete the race for life each year - FAILED
  24. Complete a knitting project every month (this can be one started previously, doesn’t need to be done totally in the month) - FAILED
  25. Go to the theatre once a month for a year. FAILED
  26. Read 250 new to me books over the 1001 days
  27. Go swimming an average of twice a month
  28. Make a serious and continued effort to become A Writer
  29. Go to see We Will Rock You
  30. Join a Stitch n Bitch type group
  31. Take meds everyday for six months
  32. Improve my grammar
  33. Read 100 books in a year
  34. Spend at least one day a month away from the computer for a year
  35. Spend at least one day a week away from the computer for a month
  36. Try to have one day a week where I don’t eat in front of the computer for three months.
  37. Start and Finish my Tenacious Cross Stitch
  38. Go back to Scandinavia
  39. Go shopping at hobbycraft
  40. Make more time for crafts
  41. Drink more water
  42. Organise my paperwork
  43. Sort the black hole known as “under the bed”
  44. Reorganise all of the flat and possibly get some parts decorated.
  45. Get blinds for my bedroom and possibly the lounge
  46. Investigate getting a cleaner rather than carers
  47. Visit Wales
  48. Get emotional/bored eating under better control
  49. Find out from mum exactly how much stuff she has of mine from pre uni, get it back and sort it out
  50. Have a go at mosaic making
  51. Have a go at weaving
  52. Read Catch 22
  53. Stop stressing about finances so much.
  54. Spend some time on the coast
  55. at the end of the 1001 days donate £1 to charity for every goal not met
  56. at the end of the 1001 days treat myself to something special. Budget – the number of goals met x £2 each
  57. Start a memory/keepsake box
  58. Go three weeks without eating chocolate or drinking coke
  59. be consistent with all goals on this list once started which aren’t time limited.
  60. Watch all the dvds I have but haven’t watched
  61. read books almost as soon as I buy them rather then buying them than not always reading them
  62. watch dvds asap after buying them
  63. only buy yarn if I either have a project in mind or my stash is running low
  64. use up half of my current craft supplies (non yarn) before buying more.
  65. Get back into the habit of taking better care of how I dress/look
  66. reconnect/get back in touch with old friends
  67. go back to Stoke to visit
  68. Go to France again
  69. learn to knit socks
  70. get the hang of circular knitting
  71. Organise photos properly
  72. create/buy notecards using some of my photos
  73. send post to one or two friends every month throughout the 1001 days - FAILED
  74. get more consistent when replying to e-mails
  75. go on a random day out
  76. watch Lord of the Rings
  77. design and make my own cross stitch sampler
  78. make crafty gifts for more than 50% of people one Christmas FAILED
  79. make more of an effort to recycle
  80. Buy fewer new books (use the library, charity shops and borrow them from people instead)
  81. come up with a funky and appropriate bag which can live on my powerchair safely and securely
  82. make more of an effort to actually walk
  83. sort my sofa out so I can use it more
  84. Lose some weight
  85. Buy new cloth pads
  86. paint my nails more often
  87. spend an entire day in my pyjamas
  88. write about my school days
  89. Go to a planetarium
  90. Go Whale/Dolphin Watching
  91. Go snorkelling again
  92. Swim 1KM in one session again and maintain approx that level of fitness
  93. Write down everything I spend for 1 month
  94. Buy new bedding
  95. Get a book published
  96. Visit the Ashmolean
  97. Make and eat a variety of proper dinners consistently for one month
  98. Remember and mark people’s birthdays
  99. Play mini golf
  100. Research family history/genealogy
  101. On day 1001 publish a new 101 in 1001 list
