Hi All,
Sorry for the mass e-mail but as some of you will know the government is currently undertaking a 100 day consultation into different ways that social care could be funded in the future. And one of the proposals is that Attendance Allowance (and the care component of DLA - attendance allowance is DLA care for over 65's) could be scrapped. Instead the money would go to social services as personal budgets for each person who is eligible and social workers would have the say in what the money could or couldn't be used for. Meaning our DLA would be used to pay for care (if we were considered eligible) and not for the additional costs of living with a disability as it is intended to be.
At the end of the 100 day consultation DLA won't end but we need to let the government know just what a difference DLA makes and that we want it to stay. Otherwise it could be taken as acceptance and it will end.
A petition has been put up on the official website of the prime minister and I'm sending this e-mail to ask everyone to sign it and to pass it on to anyone and everyone who might be interested.
The petition is at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/AttendanceA/ and once you have signed you will be e-mailed a link to click - if you don't do so your signature will not be added.
Thanks
Emma
