The Man In The Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self,
And the world makes you king for a day,
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,
and see what the man has to say.

For it isn't your Father or Mother or Wife
Who judgment upon you must pass,
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life,
Is the one staring back in the glass.

Some people may think you a straight - shootin chum,
And call you a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass say's you're only a bum,
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

He's a fellow to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous difficult test,
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of life,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartache and tears,
If you cheated the man in the glass.

I wish I could say I wrote this and even more then that I wish I knew who did write this so I could read more of their work. There is a lot about this poem that I could say about why I like it and such. But I think this is something that if you're going to understand the meaning I find in it you already can just from reading it.

But read the poem, and think about it. The message it contains was something I already knew. But it was a reminder to me and one that came at a time when I needed it.

I like this poem, too. I hope you like what you see in the mirror!

Take care,
